For my first field report i decided to go to the art museum and check out some of the new exhibits. And found my self in aw of thier new photography display there. The artist names were J. Shimm and J. Lidemann, they like to use an older look to thier work. Whether they do it themselves, or just used more of an aged film.
J. Shimm and J. Lidemann's work honestly reminds me of a late Richard Avedon. If you don't know his work Richard Avedon uses black and white photography, primarily protraits in the sense of high fashion all the way to a random person on the street who is telling a story. Also to add his own personal touch to the art, When he exposes his dark room work he leaves and uneven black boarder. It adds to the picture, and is the artist signature to his art.
Now J. Shimm and J. Lindemann used black and white photography, and they also have a black boarder except there are notches in the black boarder. Also they use section and paste them together to mke a whole image.
Thier work to me envokes emotion, some i feel happy, and other i feel sad. But they important thing is thatas an artist you complete their work by feeling something when you are looking at it. You are completing the artwork your self. I was impressed in how they did so. Using an older look to thier art gives you a sense that time itself had changed. But then when you look at the name plate you see that its from 2008! and i was amazed. They even went as far as using some copper metal etched photos ( that how oringinal film and pictures was made). Now i have now seen those in a long time. They stoped making them because over time the metal would curroad, and the picture itself was shiny/ costly.
Over all seeing this exhibit was great it was nice to see some modern day art in the museum. It was nice to be able to look and see how far film and or photograhpy has come.
